Connecting an Apple device to the internet
Here's how to reliably connect your iPhone or iPad to the internet
Servire synchronizes orders, invoices, and shift data in real time via the internet. A stable connection is therefore important; however, the POS app is capable of offline use, so brief outages will not interrupt the service.
Setting up Wi-Fi
For restaurant operations, Wi-Fi is the recommended connection type. Here's how to connect your device:
1. Open settings
Open the Settings app on the home screen.
2. Select Wi-Fi
Tap on Wi-Fi and activate the switch if it is not already activated.
3. Select network
Tap on the name of your Wi-Fi network. If the network doesn't appear, check the range to the router or whether the network is set to be visible.
4. Enter password
Enter your Wi-Fi password and tap Connect. A blue checkmark next to the network name confirms a successful connection.
Auto-join
In the network's detailed settings (tap the blue (i) next to the network name), you can enable Auto Join and Auto Log In so that the device reconnects immediately after a restart.
Mobile communications as an alternative
Servire also works over mobile data—perfect for food trucks, events, or when Wi-Fi is down.
-
Cellular Data Plan: iPads with a cellular module (Cellular models) require a data plan. For iPhones, you can use your existing plan.
-
Personal Hotspot: You can share an iPhone's internet connection with other devices via a hotspot—ideal as a backup when Wi-Fi is down.
-
eSIM: Newer iPads and iPhones support eSIMs, which you can activate directly with your provider without a physical SIM card.
Printers and mobile communications: The print hub as a bridge
Network receipt printers require a shared local network with the printing device. If your POS app runs over cellular data, it cannot directly access the printer.
Solution: The Service Hub on the Wi-Fi network acts as a print hub, handling the printing. Your iPhones and iPads remain connected via cellular data, and the print hub browser on the Wi-Fi network forwards the receipts to the printer.
Stable connection in the restaurant
For smooth operation, we recommend:
-
Place the Wi-Fi router in a central location so that all areas (dining room, bar, kitchen, terrace) are covered.
-
Use a mesh Wi-Fi network or repeaters if individual areas have weak reception.
-
Offer a separate guest Wi-Fi network so that the POS terminals are not slowed down by guest traffic.
-
Keep your router firmware up to date and restart it occasionally (once a month is sufficient).
What happens without the internet?
The POS app is offline-capable. Orders, invoices, and TSE signatures continue to function and are stored locally. As soon as a connection is re-established—even briefly via a smartphone hotspot—all data is automatically synchronized to the cloud.
However, internet access is required for continuous operation (web desk, real-time sync of multiple devices, card payments via SumUp).
