Setup

Activate Tap to Pay on iPhone

Accept card payments directly with your iPhone — without a separate terminal

With Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can turn your iPhone into a fully functional card terminal. Guests simply hold their credit card, debit card, or smartphone to your iPhone—the payment is processed contactlessly. No additional terminal, no Bluetooth pairing, no hardware costs.

Servire uses the payment provider SumUp for payment processing. Activation takes a few minutes.

Requirements

To use Tap to Pay, you need:

  • iPhone XS or newer (iPhone XS, XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, SE 2nd/3rd generation)

  • iOS 17.4 or newer

  • An Apple ID enabled in Wallet in Germany or a supported country

  • A SumUp account (free, with bank details for payouts)

  • Active internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular)

Only on iPhone

Tap to Pay is an iPhone feature; it's not available on iPads. With iPads, you use a SumUp terminal via Bluetooth.

How to activate Tap to Pay

Step 1: Open payment provider

In the Servire POS app, open the Settings and tap on Payment Providers.

Step 2: Grant permissions

Servire requires two iOS permissions for Tap to Pay—both are mandated by SumUp and Apple:

  • Bluetooth—for secure communication with the NFC chip

  • Location—as an additional security measure for card payments

Allow both permissions in the pop-ups that iOS displays.

Step 3: Connect your SumUp account

Log in with your existing SumUp account or register for free directly from the app.

SumUp registration

If you don't already have a SumUp account, you can create one during the activation process. SumUp will review your business within 1–2 business days—after which you can get started.

Step 4: Activate Tap to Pay

Tap Activate Tap to Pay. Apple and SumUp will then guide you through a setup wizard:

  1. Sign in with your Apple ID

  2. Read and accept the terms and conditions

  3. Grant permission

  4. Complete setup

The entire process takes about two minutes and only needs to be completed once per iPhone.

This is how payment works in the service

  1. Take the order in the Servire POS app

  2. Select Card Payment at checkout

  3. The guest holds their card, iPhone, or Apple Watch against the top of the back of your iPhone

  4. For amounts over €50, iOS will prompt for the PIN displayed on the screen

  5. Payment confirmed — receipt printed

Checkout with the guest typically takes less than 5 seconds.

Fees

SumUp sets the transaction fees — typically around 1.49% per payment (as of 2026). Servire itself does not charge any additional fees for the tap-to-pay function.

Alternatives to Tap to Pay

If Tap to Pay isn't suitable for your business (e.g., no iPhones, only iPads), you can also connect a SumUp terminal to Servire via Bluetooth. Payments are also possible via Stripe—configuration is done in the web desk under Settings → Payment Providers.

What to do if activation fails?

  • Check your iOS version: Settings → General → About → Software Version. iOS 17.4 or later is required.

  • Check your iPhone model: iPhone XS or newer.

  • Check your region: Your Apple ID must be set to Germany (or a supported country).

  • Set up your wallet: Open the Wallet app and enter your Apple ID if you haven't already.

  • SumUp account status: Activation is only possible with a verified SumUp account.

If activation still fails, please email support@servire.de — we'll help you directly.
