Setup

Setting up a new Apple device

Here's how to set up a new iPhone or iPad for use with Server

Before installing the Servire POS app, your iPhone or iPad must be ready for use. This guide shows you what to consider during setup and how to optimally configure your device for POS use.

Suitable equipment for serving

The Servire POS app requires iOS 17 / iPadOS 17 or later. The following devices are supported:

  • iPhone XS or SE (2nd generation) and later

  • iPad (6th generation and later) and later

  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later) and later

  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

Used devices are readily available at affordable prices (often starting at €200) and are perfectly adequate for POS use.

Setup step by step

1. Turn on the device and select the language.

Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. Select German as the language and Germany as the region.

2. Quick start or manual setup

If you already own another iPhone or iPad, you can hold it next to yours and use Quick Start — settings will be transferred automatically. Otherwise, select Manual Setup.

3. Connect to Wi-Fi

Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Detailed instructions can be found in the article Connecting an Apple device to the internet.

4. Sign in or create an Apple ID

To download the Servire POS app from the App Store, you need an Apple ID. If you don't have one yet, you can create one for free during setup.

5. Install updates

After setup, go to Settings → General → Software Update and install the latest iOS version. Also, enable automatic updates to ensure security vulnerabilities are patched promptly.

Recommended settings for cash register use

For continuous use as a POS system, we recommend the following adjustments:

  • Disable automatic lock (Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never). The device remains active throughout service. This only works effectively when the charging cable is connected.

  • Set screen brightness to manual and adjust it to match the lighting in the dining area — automatic adjustment can be disruptive during service.

  • Disable power saving mode (Settings → Battery). In power saving mode, background processes are restricted, which can delay synchronization.

  • Activate Do Not Disturb mode during service to prevent incoming calls or messages from interrupting operation.

  • Turn off screen time, otherwise certain functions will be locked after prolonged use.

Used equipment

When buying a used device, always check that it is not locked by the previous owner's iCloud Activation Lock. Ask the seller to completely reset the device before handing it over (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad → Erase All Content and Settings).
