Setting up a new Apple device

Here's how to set up a new iPhone or iPad for use with Server

Before installing the Servire POS app, your iPhone or iPad must be ready for use. This guide shows you what to pay attention to during setup and how to configure the device for POS use.

Suitable equipment

The POS app requires iOS 17.6 or iPadOS 17.6 or later; it cannot be installed on older versions. Supported devices include iPhone XS or SE (2nd generation and later), iPad (6th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later). Used devices are often available starting at €200 and are perfectly adequate for POS use.

Setup step by step

Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, then select your language and region. If you already own an iPhone or iPad, Quick Start will apply the settings when you place both devices next to each other. Next, connect to Wi-Fi—see the article Connecting your Apple device to the internet for details—and sign in with your Apple ID; this is required for downloading from the App Store and can be created for free during setup. Finally, install the latest version under Settings → General → Software Update and enable automatic updates.

Recommended settings for cash register use

  • Disable Auto-Lock (Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never) — only useful when charging.

  • Set Screen Brightness to Manual and adjust it to the ambient lighting in the dining area.

  • Disable Power Saving Mode (Settings → Battery), as it delays synchronization.

  • Activate Do Not Disturb Mode while on duty.

  • Turn off Screen Time, otherwise functions will be locked after prolonged use.

Used equipment

When buying a used device, always check that it is not locked by the previous owner's iCloud Activation Lock. Ask the seller to completely reset the device before handing it over (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone/iPad → Erase All Content and Settings).
