Manage article groups

How to structure your menu into groups (food/drinks/other) — basis for DATEV export, printer assignment and discount rules.

Why product groups?

Article groups are the accounting framework for your articles. They determine which DATEV account a sale is posted to, which printer is activated when an order is placed, and which discounts are applicable to which articles.

  • DATEV Export — Separate general ledger account for each group in the accounting system

  • Printer Assignment — Food to the kitchen, drinks to the bar, ice cream to the daily operations

  • Discount Exclusions — Employee discount not applicable to tobacco/deposits, etc.

  • Statistics — Analyze sales by product group

Standard groups at every restaurant

When creating a new restaurant, Servire automatically creates three standard groups: Food, Drinks, and Other. These three are sufficient for many businesses.

Create your own product group

Open Settings → Restaurant → Item Groups and tap the + icon. You only need to fill in two fields:

  • Name — freely selectable, e.g., Tobacco Products, Ice Cream, Merchandise

  • TypeFood, Beverages, or Other — determines the default tax rate and accounting behavior.

Order via drag & drop

In the overview, you can sort the groups using drag and drop. The order also determines the order in which the groups appear on receipts and in statistics.

Assign article group

For each item on your menu, you select an item group. If you don't assign one, it automatically ends up in Other. The tax rate and printer configuration are then inherited via the item group.

You can define which printer is responsible for which product group in the Servire POS app under Settings → Printers → Receipt Printers. You can select multiple groups for each printer.
