Setting up automatic shifts
How to start and end shifts on a timed basis
Shifts can be started and ended on a schedule instead of having to open them manually each day. In the web interface, navigate to Settings › Restaurant › Automatic Shifts. Changes will only take effect after you save them using the save bar at the bottom of the screen.
Set start and end times
With "Start automatically," a shift begins at the start of a scheduled window; with "End automatically," it ends after the window closes. When either switch is active, the "Shift Window" section appears. Clicking the pencil icon opens "Edit Shift Window," allowing you to define shift times for each day of the week. Windows spanning midnight, such as 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, are possible. Only one shift can start per window—after a manual end, the system will not restart in the same window.
Stop on inactivity
The "End on inactivity" switch closes forgotten shifts. Under "End after inactivity of," you select a period between 15 minutes and 12 hours; the default is 1 hour. For "Range," you can choose between "Always" or "Only outside scheduled windows," which is the default. The count starts from the last time the shift was logged, or from the start of the shift if the last time was logged.
Lock manual controls
"Allow manual shift control" only appears if "Start automatically" is enabled along with "End automatically" or "End on inactivity." When disabled, the "Start shift" and "End shift" buttons in the POS app are grayed out, and the message "Shifts are controlled automatically" appears below. Automatically started shifts are assigned to the location owner, not the person operating the device.
When the shift ends automatically, the cash reconciliation is skipped; it will be performed as a supplementary count at the next manual shift start. Open tables are switched to "Pay Later" and remain billable, the Z-report is generated, and the owner is notified by email. Shifts without any booking are discarded. Checks are performed every 30 minutes.
