Manage product variants

Create global and article-specific variants — sizes, side dishes, toppings

Variations make your products flexible: For a coffee, the app asks for size (small, medium, large), for a pizza for sides (extra cheese, no garlic), for a bowl for toppings (falafel, tuna, pulled pork). Servire recognizes two types of variations.

Global vs. article-specific variants

  • Global Variants — Variant groups that you can create centrally and assign to any number of items. Example: Variant group Size with small/medium/large — used for all coffee specialties.

  • Item-Specific Variants — only available for a single item and not reused centrally. Example: With/without cream only for a specific cake.

Rule of thumb: If a variant is the same for multiple items, it's better to create it globally. This saves maintenance effort.

Manage global variants

Click on the More menu (…) in the top right corner of the menu page and select Edit variants.

For each variant group, you configure:

  • Variant Name — as the question is phrased in the app (e.g., Size, Side Dishes, Add-ons)

  • Multiple Selection — when enabled, the guest can choose multiple options (e.g., multiple side dishes). When disabled, only one option is available (e.g., only one size).

  • Mandatory Selection — the server must select at least one option before the item can be added to the cart (e.g., for pizza: Size is mandatory, side dishes are optional)

  • Publicly Visible — display the variant on the digital menu for guests

  • Options — the individual choices with their surcharges (e.g., Small €0.00, Large +€1.50)

You can change the order of the options using drag & drop with the grabber icon on the left.

Mandatory selection saves service time

For mandatory selection options, the option dialog opens automatically when the item is tapped. This prevents the option from being forgotten and eliminates the need for the guest to be asked again.

Assign variants to an article

In the product dialog, click on the Global Variants tab and activate the desired variant groups. For example, the product Cappuccino is assigned the variant groups Size and Milk Type.

Article-specific variants

In the Article-Specific Variants tab, you create variants that are only available for this article. The configuration is identical to global variants (multiple selection, mandatory selection, options with surcharge), except that the variant group does not appear in the global list and cannot be assigned to any other article.
