Print center on multiple devices

How the main unit and standby devices work together to ensure that each receipt is issued exactly once.

The print center can be open on multiple devices simultaneously—one in the kitchen, one at the counter. One handles the printing, while the others wait and take over if the printing device fails. Each receipt is still only printed once.

The three states

The status tile in the top left corner tells you where you stand:

  • Active — this device is printing.

  • Ready — another machine is printing; this one is in reserve.

  • No machine is printing — the print center is on, but no one has taken over. Orders are being collected until a machine takes over.

If the printing device fails, another one takes over automatically, in about one to two minutes.

Set up a device

Without your intervention, the device that has been connected the longest will print. If you want to prioritize a specific device, such as the computer with the desktop app instead of the iPad at the counter:

  1. Tap Set as primary device in the status tile, or open the Status Explained button.

  2. Under Connected devices, all active sessions are listed, including browser and operating system. Your device is highlighted.

  3. Tap Set as primary device on the desired device.

The device will then display the Pinned symbol. If it fails, another device will take over—the server will then report that the pinned device is offline. Remove PIN will return you to automatic dialing.

You can see disruptions everywhere.

If a printer reports a problem, the warning appears on all devices, including those on standby — because the print queue is empty there, as only the printing device maintains it. The message states the reason and how many receipts are waiting.
