Install the Hub as an app
When the desktop app is better than the browser, and where you can get it.
The hub runs in any modern browser. However, the app is still worthwhile for one purpose: the print center.
Why the app
Printing via the browser uses Epson's web interface. This has two limitations: it only works with Epson printers, and only while the browser tab is open.
The desktop app prints directly via the operating system. It continues to run in the background, automatically retrying jobs after a network outage, and also supports receipt printers from other manufacturers such as Star, Bixolon, or Citizen.
For kitchen monitors, customer displays, pickup displays and menu displays, it makes no difference — the browser works just as well there.
Where to get them
In the Hub, open the home screen and tap Download Desktop App at the bottom. The page offers:
Android as an APK file
macOS as a DMG file
Windows as an installer or as an MSI package
Linux as an AppImage, Debian, RPM package or for Raspberry Pi
The app notifies itself when a new version is available: “Service Hub … is available” with the buttons Install now and Later.
On iPhone and iPad
There is no Hub app for iPhone and iPad. You open the Hub in Safari. To make it look like an app, tap Add to Home Screen in the share menu. The Hub will then launch in full screen without the browser bar.
For the print hub, this means: on an iPad, it only works with Epson printers and only while the hub is open. If you want to print centrally on a permanent basis, use a small computer or an Android tablet with the app.
