Manage labels (allergens, additives, properties)

Manage allergens and additives compliant with the Food Information Regulation (LMIV), as well as proprietary labeling such as vegan or spicy.

Labels include allergens (contains gluten, contains eggs, soy, etc.) and additives (with coloring, with preservative, contains caffeine, etc.), as well as self-defined characteristics such as vegan, regional, or spicy. They are legally required in Germany and Austria (Food Information Regulation LMIV).

Pre-installed labels

When setting up a restaurant menu, 12 additives (with colorant, with preservative, with antioxidant, etc.) and 14 allergens (contains gluten, contains crustaceans, contains eggs, contains fish, etc.) are included according to Annex II of the Food Information Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. In addition, 11 pre-defined properties are provided: Spicy, Very Spicy, Vegan, Vegetarian, Regional, Organic, Recommended, New, Homemade, Gluten-free, and Lactose-free.

Create your own labels

Click on the More menu (…) in the upper right corner and select Edit Labels. Here you can add markers that are not included, such as Daily Special or House Special.

Click on + Label and enter the name and type (Additive, Allergen, or Property). The third field is called Identifier and is a drop-down list whose content depends on the type: for Allergen, letters (A, A1 to A10, B, etc.); for Additive, numbers from 1 to 100; and for Property, an icon from 50 predefined symbols. You cannot add your own symbols.

Features on the menu

Labels of the type property are displayed as icons on the digital menu and in print, for example, a green leaf for vegan. This makes your menu clearer for guests.

Assign and mandatory information

In the product dialog, switch to the Labels tab and activate all relevant markers. These will appear as superscript numbers or letters after the product name, as icons in the digital menu, and in the PDF menu generator. By law, you are required to declare at least the 14 main allergens (Annex 2 of the Food Information Regulation) and all additives requiring declaration—for unpackaged food items, this must be stated in writing on the menu or verbally after documented training.
